Necati Akpinar and Yilmaz Erdogan took an old forsaken cinema in 1995, turned it into a theater and established BKM. To be successful in this venture, Yilmaz Erdogan’s first play “Otogargara” would have to be staged to sold-out audiences for several seasons. This was a big risk that happily paid off. Following suit was “Bir Demet Tiyatro” shot live on the same stage and screened on TV for many years with #1 ratings. BKM also went into organizing concerts and shows for international stars such as Leonard Cohen, Rihanna, Madonna and Sting.

BKM Film was established in 2000 with its first feature film “Vizontele” which became a record-breaking box office hit written and co-directed by Yilmaz Erdogan. “The Butterfly’s Dream”, released in 2013, was Turkey’s submission for the Foreign Language Film category at the 86th Academy Awards and the film went on to win many awards in foreign and domestic film festivals. With 39 movies already under its belt, BKM produces more than 9 films, 3 television shows, and various theater acts each season.
